Arthur Shattuck, Client Technology Consultant–ABRC, recently volunteered at the “Money Matters: Reality Store” event, hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh to teach club members, ages 10-18, about financial wellness.
Comparable to a giant game of LIFE, the simulation allows youth to experience what it’s like to pay bills and make financial decisions such as buying a house or vehicle, and budgeting for child care, insurance and more. They even choose their own career, open a checking account and start a family.
Shattuck assisted with the bank station to teach youth how to manage their finances and make sound financial decisions.
“The event helped club members understand how well they’d be able to support themselves in the future based on their selected career and lifestyle choices,” said Shattuck, who learned about this opportunity after volunteering with the Club last May.
Shattuck helped organize and participate in the same event for the Boys & Girls Club of the Fox Valley. He plans to continue supporting Reality Store events in the future.
